The Goofre Manifesto: Reclaiming the Future of Commerce
Hey there,
If you’re reading this, you’re probably a developer, a builder, or someone who looks at the current e-commerce landscape and thinks, "Something massive is shifting under our feet." You're right. It is.
Before we get into the tech, I want to share the three basic principles that drive everything I do:
1. Simplification is the most complex act. So, always strive to simplify.
2. Technology helps us create impact at scale. Creative simplification makes that impact 10x.
3. Knowledge and wealth compound only when they are shared.
This isn't my first attempt at building something new. It’s my third.
My first was an attempt to help hospitality professionals reclaim their space against massive hotel aggregators. It failed. My second was a platform to help job seekers showcase their profiles better. I ended up stalling that one.
But what did those two have in common? Empowering people. Giving control back to the individuals who actually make the ecosystem run. This third attempt, Goofre, is no different.
For the past 12+ years, I’ve been living in the tech startup trenches, specializing in Go-To-Market (GTM) and scaling companies from zero to one. I love the chaos of early-stage growth: building teams, setting up infrastructure, and getting that initial momentum. Every single time, the secret to surviving is fully assimilating into the industry: knowing its past, learning its present, and predicting its future.
Over the last year, I’ve been part of a startup building an AI-native e-commerce platform. It was during this time that I had a front-row seat to the rapid, unstoppable advent of Agentic Commerce.
Because I look at technology through a people-centric lens, I immediately saw how this rapid AI adoption was going to impact people, specifically the e-commerce developer community.
The signs are flashing neon red.
1. Is Agentic Commerce Real?
Look at the data from late 2025 and early 2026. This isn't a futuristic concept anymore; it's the current reality:
- Over 40% of digital shoppers have shifted from traditional keyword searches to conversational, AI-driven product discovery.
- Major LLMs (like Gemini and ChatGPT) are now processing millions of direct shopping queries daily, bypassing traditional storefronts entirely.
- Industry analysts note a 300% year-over-year increase in purchases completed autonomously by AI agents on behalf of users.
2. The Ecosystem is Already Changing
The platforms you rely on are automating you out of the equation:
- Shopify’s Winter 2025 Release: We saw the expansion of Magic, Sidekick, automated store builders, and merchant app-building features, right alongside quiet layoffs in partner teams.
- Medusa launched Bloom: Bringing heavy automation to open-source store building.
- Wix acquired Base 44: Doubling down on automated, AI-generated store creation.
E-commerce platforms are racing toward total automation of the storefront. So, the quiet, terrifying question is: What are e-commerce developers going to do?
Every Storm Brings a New Shore
We are entering the Agentic Commerce era. The fundamental shift is this: Customers will no longer shop on websites. They will simply ask their AI platform of choice (Gemini, Claude, ChatGPT) to find a product, compare it, and buy it. E-commerce stores are no longer being built for human eyes; they are being built to be read, parsed, and understood by AI agents.
That is why I am building Goofre.
Goofre literally means "Go Free." Free yourself from platform lock-in. Free yourself from dependency on automated site-builders. Reclaim your space in the future of commerce by evolving from a web developer into an Agentic Commerce Orchestrator™ (ACO™).
How Do We Do This?
Historically, every major technology evolution standardizes around a framework built by the strongest player in the space. Look at Microsoft standardizing the PC era with Windows and Office, or Google standardizing the web with Search.
For Agentic Commerce, that standard is being set by Google's Commerce Stack and their Universal Commerce Platforms (UCP).
Why Google? Let’s look at the sheer, undeniable gravity of their ecosystem:
- Google Search: Over 8.5 billion searches per day.
- Google Chrome: 3.4 billion+ active users holding the gateway to the web.
- Gemini AI: Rapidly integrating into Android, Workspace, and web search for hundreds of millions of users.
- Google Merchant Center (GMC): Housing tens of billions of active SKUs.
- Google Business Profile: The backbone of local commerce globally.
The strategy is simple: Become Agentic Commerce-ready by adapting to UCP using Google's existing commerce stack.
The Challenge & The Intelligence Layer
Here is the plain truth: Google’s commerce stack is a beautifully structured, highly efficient engine, but it is incredibly complex and operates in silos.
That is where Goofre comes in. Goofre acts as the layer of intelligence. It connects the nodes, channelizes the data, and transforms Google’s isolated commerce stack into a unified, open-source e-commerce platform.
We are giving developers the room to build, own, and scale.
- The Goofre Open Source version is BSL (Business Source License) certified.
- The Plugin API Adapter operates under an MIT license, giving you absolute freedom to build on top of it.
- Our SaaS Operating System allows for seamless multi-merchant management and features a Merchant PWA for deep engagement.
You are no longer just building a store. You are orchestrating the flow of data for the AI agents of tomorrow.
